Lack of constant game time this season continues to affect Varane’s development and growth, and he risks losing his place in the France backline as the Euros approach. The 23-year-old has appeared 21 times in the La Liga this season but still doesn’t look like a favorite of Zidane. After having also failed to win Benitez’s heart while the Newcastle coach was in charge, it is safe to say the youngster might be better elsewhere where he will be more appreciated and seen as a regular.
And that could be Manchester United by Summer if Mourinho takes over. The Portuguese’s link with the Red Devils continues to grow stronger by the day, and it is almost becoming a certainty he would end up at Old Trafford by next season. The defence obviously needs changes, and a quality addition in Varane is most likely to be on the books if Jose gets the job. The Special One has always wanted Varane in his fold once again since leaving Madrid, and after bids to get him arrive at Stamford Bridge last Summer failed, he would sure love to finally get him this time around.
Chelsea are also interested in securing the signature of the highly-rated France international. The Blues aren’t relenting in their task to have a solid defence, with the imminent departure of John Terry, and the ageing of Cahill and Ivanovic already telling on the club. Real Madrid value him at 30 million Pounds at the moment, and despite having committed his future to the Spanish club, a move away by Summer is most likely. But where would it be? Manchester or London?
