The reports linking Belgium international, Christian Benteke to a move to West Ham by Summer just won’t stop anytime soon. Clearly, the 25-year-old isn’t Klopp’s ideal striker nor favourite, and he wouldn’t be even he remains at Anfield. The German was caught on camera lashing out at the former Aston Villa forward at the weekend after he had failed to convert a chance to help Liverpool restore a 2 – 0 goal lead, with the scores still at 2 – 1 against Southampton. Many have spoken against the action of the erstwhile Dortmund handler for publicly criticizing his player, but it still all boils down to the fact that he sees Benteke as very disposable.
West Ham are interested in having him spearhead their attack for next season, and a Champions League spot might just be enough to tempt him. The Hammers are just 1 point behind Manchester City, currently occupying the last Champions League spot, and a good run in the remaining 8 games could make the dream come true. A new stadium is also getting used next season, and getting a marquee signing in Benteke is befitting. Reports claim they are ready to spend up to 20 million Pounds in his acquisition.
His 140,000 Pounds weekly wages might, however, put the club off. His arrival at Anfield last Summer saw his wages rise, and he might be hesitant to see it reduce if an agreement to transfer to West Ham is made. Liverpool are also in contention to make the Europa League next season, and if the injury and lack-of-fitness problems are put behind him, Benteke could be a lethargic goal poacher on his day. He could decide to stay and fight for a shirt whilst continuing to enjoy a fat cheque, or choose to go where a shirt is guaranteed.
