Willian has revealed that his dream of playing for Chelsea was behind his decision to snub a move to Tottenham in the summer of 2013.
The Brazilian was on the verge of signing for the Cockerels in a £30m deal from Anzhi after undergoing a medical and agreeing personal terms. But after being approached by Mourinho, Willian turned down the deal and moved to Stamford Bridge on a five-year contract.
Willian said, “I don’t know how I can explain that moment. But it was the best moment I think in my life when I signed with Chelsea because it was my dream to come here. Yes, it was difficult (to turn down Tottenham). But I didn’t sign. When at the last moment Chelsea call me, I say I’m sorry but I go to Chelsea, that’s my dream. I have to go there, I don’t care. I go there.
Willian won Chelsea’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards in the dismal 2015-16 campaign.
Willian has scored three goals this season and will be hoping to cement a starting spot in Antonio Conte’s side that host the Baggies this weekend.
