The Blues officials have contacted Diego Simeone’s agent in a bid to lure the Argentine to the Stamford Bridge hot-seat next season, as they continue their search for Guus Hiddink’s long-term replacement.
Hiddink was appointed as interim boss until the end of the season, and results and performances have since picked up under the Dutchman, but he’s not the long-term option in west London.
As per the Sunday People (via the Mirror), the club have been in contact with Atletico Madrid boss Simeone’s agent, his sister Natalia, in the last couple of weeks, with the Argentine aware that he remains Chelsea’s number one target this summer.
The newspaper reports that Simeone has a release clause of around £3.1 million in his current contract, which could rise to £5.4 million should he lead Atletico to La Liga or Champions League success this term.
Chelsea players scored 38 goals and conceded 36 in their 26 league games this season, with a shot accuracy of 45% and an average pass accuracy of 83%.
The West London giants sit 12th on 33 points, just three adrift of the top half of the table following their thumping 5-1 home win over Newcastle United last weekend.
While Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, are second in La Liga with 54 points, one ahead of rivals Real Madrid in third and nine behind leaders Barcelona.
