Former footballer and BBC pundit Garth Crooks said on the Final Score programme on Sunday that he believes West Ham summer signing Michail Antonio has been an excellent signing for the Hammers this season.
The energetic winger joined the Irons for a reported fee of around £7m from Nottingham Forest and has been huge for Slaven Bilic’s man due to his convincing displays.
Antonio, who had never played in the top flight before this season, scored his eighth league goal of the season in his 26th League appearance in the 2-1 defeat to Stoke City in Sunday’s final fixture.
Despite being overshadowed by the more illustrious newcomer of France attacker Dimitri Payet at the East Midlands, the winger has taken that form into the top flight, and Crooks has been very impressed with what he has seen.
The pundit told BBC’s Final Score: “He’s been outstanding this season, what a find. He came from Forest, and has settled in the Premier League very well.
“[He’s got nine goals] but think of where he’s played. He’s played in an advanced position and scored goals; he’s played at right-back. He’s outstanding; he’s had an outstanding season. He took his goal exceptionally well today.”
The 26-year-old Englishman was initially seen as something of a gamble by many Hammers fans when he joined on 1 September, but he has gone a long way to proving that he was worth the relatively inflated price tag for the second-tier player.
