As quoted by The Sun, Liverpool and France international defender, Mamadou Sakho has this to say of a one-time EPL outcast and reject,
“I have faced Messi and I have faced Cristiano Ronaldo, but I have always said that the player who impressed me the most was Hatem Ben Arfa. What he does on the pitch, it’s exceptional.”
The OGC Nice talisman had a torrid time during his lengthy stay in the EPL few seasons ago, with the likes of Hull City’s coach, Steve Bruce branding him “a dreadful waste of real talent”, while then-Newcastle handler, Alan Pardew once fined him 1,600 Pounds for being overweight. But a return back home to the French Ligue one seemed to have helped the 29-year-old find his form, and he has 16 league goals in 29 appearances for the 4th-placed side.
His new-found form has seen him attract Liverpool, and they are keen to hand him an EPL return. Newcastle cut off his deal in January 2015, and he was a free agent until June. Liverpool are now being rivalled by Ligue one champions, PSG who see him as a quality replacement for the likely-to-depart Zlatan. The Sweden international will come to the end of his contract once the season ends, and he is being linked with a move to the EPL as his search for a Champions League medal continues.
After being left out of the France national team for years, Ben Arfa has been recalled of recent and will be part of the squad to the Euros, a testimonial to the fine form of the versatile forward who can play both as a wideman and as a striker. Liverpool and PSG aren’t the only clubs interested in landing Arfa. His resurgence has alerted clubs in Europe’s elite league. Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan have also shown interest in getting him. But Champions League football will be definitely be a decider for Ben, and Liverpool must aim to finish top 4 or win the Europa League if they are to have a chance to sign him.
