Rashford is no doubt already a role model and source of inspiration to many young players out there. Following his heroics after bursting onto the scene less than 2 months ago, the 18-year-old seem to have acted as catalyst in Manchester United’s pursuit of Netherlands youth international, Tahith Chong. Back in January, it was revealed that the 16-year-old Feyenoord forward refused to agree to an Old Trafford move. The Red Devils’ scout had been impressed with his performances at the Premier Cup tournament that took place in Carrington last year’s August.
His fears of the unknown at such a club might now have been allayed with Rashford’s features in recent games. The versatile forward, who can play as a winger and midfielder has now technically agreed to join United, and finally take that big step in his young playing career. Chong arrived the Feyenoord’s academy as a 10-year-old, and has since grown into a potential future great.
Manchester United will still face fierce competition from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea who are also monitoring the progress of the under-17 Oranje star. Old Trafford remains his most-likely of next stops, and he should feel at home as quick as possible with the Netherlands contingent in the coach, Depay and Blind at the club. Louis van Gaal has demonstrated his philosophy of giving youths a chance at his side this season, with up to 4 academy and youth team players making appearances in recent times. Time for Chong to join the train and take the footballing world by storm.
