Manchester United officials are still searching an ideal replacement of Louis van Gaal

Who will replace Louis van Gaal is the major theme of the British press speculations.

While Inter Milan director argued Jose Mourinho has already agreed to be the next Manchester United manager, other sources close to Mourinho suggest nothing is agreed with the former Chelsea manager.

The Sunday Mirror have an update and it hints as to the power struggle that is taking place at Old Trafford right now.

Some of the Manchester United hierarchy want Jose Mourinho. Others believe Ryan Giggs is the man to take the Premier League giants out of their current slump.

Simon Mullock believes that United will continue with their long-term succession plan to replace Louis van Gaal with Ryan Giggs.

This process will move forward at the end of the season, whatever happens between now and the final weeks of the campaign.

A United insider is quoted saying: “Appointing Mourinho would only paper over the cracks. The club have a long-term plan that they intend to stick to.”

And, that United will honour promises they made to Ryan Giggs when he agreed to become Louis Van Gaal’s assistant in 2014.

Also of note in the Mirror article is that Manchester United’s contact with Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has only come as a result of contact from the Portuguese camp.

Despite Ryan Giggs authority, it seems the majority of the Manchester United fans want the “Special One” in charge.
