It could be said that 18-year-old Ousmane Dembele, Rennes’ forward is the next hot kid on the block right now as far as football goes. European elite clubs are all monitoring the situation of the France youth international, following his splendid performances so far for the Ligue 1 side this season. With Manchester United in need of such quality recruitment ahead of the new season, they have followed suit and joined the race in pursuit of the whiz kid.
Dembele recently bagged his first professional hat trick earlier this month and was also valuable in his side’s draw last weekend, when the 5th-placed club picked up 1 point against Lyon. The teenage sensation has 9 goals in total this season, and most have come during the few minutes of action afforded him by the club. Many already tip him as a prospective Balon d’or winner, and some call him a young Cristiano Ronaldo. These descriptions definitely don’t come to an 18-year-old rising player every now and then. Dembele is indeed special.
The attacking department is one area the Red Devils has had issues with this term. Wayne Rooney absence has seen them in need of options, and with him rumoured to almost depart by Summer, the Old Trafford outfit would be hoping to secure Dembele’s services under the watchful eyes of other EPL sides, which include Arsenal, West Ham, Southampton and Stoke City. Bayern Munich, Juventus, Cologne, Espanyol, Malaga, Fiorentina, Celta Vigo, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Lorient, Nantes and Barcelona have all recently sent scouts to watch him in action. Whilst the Spanish giants already have seen a bid of 27 million Pounds rejected by Rennes, as the French side won’t let him leave for nothing less than 30.7 million Pounds. One thing is for sure, he won’t be with his club by next season, but are United man enough to win the race for his signature?
