Former Liverpool striker and club legend, John Aldridge has admitted Liverpool are well on their way to the top if the side’s striker, Daniel Sturridge attains full fitness and starts firing all cylinders. Sturridge wasn’t in his best form in front of goal during the weekend as the Merseysiders could only get a draw against Tottenham. Though he provided the assist for Liverpool’s only goal, Kane’s strike canceled it out, and he was eventually replaced by Origi as Klopp searched for a win.
Still unable to find his explosive form following his return from a long-term injury, Aldridge believes the England international will find it with time, and the key to that will be Liverpool fans’ support for him. He was given a standing ovation when substituted at the weekend, and that obviously is a true sign of the fans’ backing. And he must be able to repay them by “making sure he works on his fitness, work in training and do everything he can to get back to full sharpness”.
The 26-year-old has been a constant long-term injury victim since he arrived at Anfield, and that has also affected his appearances this term, as he has only been able to get 15 of them across all competitions under his belt. With 7 strikes to his name, it is a quite commendable goal ratio for someone that has been under the knife a majority of the season. But he is able to do more on his day, and a return to top form will be crucial for Liverpool’s success in seasons to come.
