FINALLY, highly-rated defender arrives Old Trafford ahead of a potential Summer move

At least, 14 teenagers at Manchester United can be regarded as ones for the future following their taste of senior team action this season. One of them Marcus Rashford, despite being primarily an Academy player some 3 months ago has become one of the most-talked about players in the EPL this season. And that culture of handing first team opportunities will surely continue next season. 16-year-old KV Mechelen central back, Keith Groeneveld has reportedly arrived Old Trafford according to HLN.

The captain of the under-17 team of the Belgian Pro League side is in United for a trials, and could secure a move to the Theater of Dreams this Summer if he impresses the scouts. A highly-rated defender back home, Belgian giants, Standard Liege are also monitoring the South-African born youngster, and some reports say they have already offered him a contract. Having already once trained with Manchester United as a 12-year-old youngster, the current trials could be to ascertain how much he has grown and develop, with a permanent signing on the books.

Although he is yet to appear for Mechelen’s senior team, Groeneveld has all it takes to become a great defender, and will sure be a quality addition to the side. His development will also be quickened in Manchester United, and he might just be the next Fosu-Mensah is some 1 or 2 season’s time. The Ghana-born young defender is slowly becoming a regular in the star-studded Manchester squad. His brilliance was particularly at its peak during the game against Tottenham. He had helped keep the North London club’s attacking squad in check, but the defence fell apart upon his withdrawal through injury, and 3 goals were conceded within a space of 15 minutes.
