Chelsea step up interest in Championship wonder kid goalmachine after Tottenham back down

The Blues could have won themselves a trophy in the likely signature of France youth international and Fulham striker, Moussa Dembele. The West London side and Tottenham are amongst the many sides in the race to land the highly-rated forward, but the White Hart Lane has pulled out of the race, and Chelsea now have a chance to clinch his signature. Dembele was linked with a move to North London during Winter, but the deal fell through, and Tottenham were planning to make a Summer swoop.

Dembele has found the back of the net 14 times and provided 6 assists thus far in the Championship, and has attracted the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, Juventus and Napoli due to his hot form in front of goal. The former PSG youth player arrived Craven Cottage 3 years ago, and has since grown into a fine prospect. The Daily Mail reports that the 19-year-old was spotted at the Stamford Bridge as a guest of the host during the weekend’s clash with Manchester City.

Chelsea have been poor all season long, falling apart since the start of the season and currently languishing in 10th position. Diego Costa has been linked with a move back to Spain to rejoin Atletico Madrid, and the club are in need of a quality replacement. The likes of Falcao, Loic and Pato have not been able to perform up to expectations, and are considered surplus to requirements. The trio would likely to released to pave way for Dembele who would become a free agent at the end of the season.
