Chelsea are in private talks with German star

Defending Premier League champions Chelsea have opened talks with German defensive star Mats Hummels’ representatives over a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to German publication Sport Bild.

Red Devils have been strongly linked with the Borussia Dortmund centre-back for the past two years, but it is the Blues who are reportedly now taking the initiative in the race to sign him.

They have reportedly engaged a third-party agent in contact with Hummels’ camp. The article points out that the 27-year-old doesn’t have an agent and that his father Hermann handles his contract negotiations.

German star, Hummels enters the final 12 months of his contract this summer and the report suggests he would be available for around €35m.

Chelsea are set to part company with long-serving skipper John Terry this summer and are likely to bring in another experienced centre-back. World Cup-winning Germany international Hummels certainly fits the bill.

The player must now decide whether to make the jump to the Premier League or renew his deal at Dortmund.
