BREAKING: Manchester United local boy signs long-term contract

Lingard - Rashford - UnitedMarcus and Jesse: Carrying on the legacy for the Manchester United Academy

Manchester United academy product Jesse Lingard has signed a new four-year deal with the club with the option to extend for a further year. The 24-year old extends his stay at his boyhood club until June 2021 for a contract worth £75,000 per week. The Warrington-born player has been at the club since the age of seven and his journey has been the stuff of dreams.

Despite not being supremely talented at his age, Jesse has worked his way into the United setup and his determination and hard work deserves credit. He made his debut against Swansea in the 2014/15 season and there has been no looking back. He has scored 11 goals for the first team and despite the low number, they have been memorable to say the least. Lingard, touted as the Wembley-man across social media scored three massive goals at his national home ground Wembley thereby securing three trophies for Manchester United.

JESSE WAS NOTABLY DELIGHTED TO PEN HIS NEW CONTRACT WITH THE CLUB:

“Manchester United has always been a big part of my life. I have been with the club since the age of seven and I feel great pride every time I pull the shirt on. To have scored in two cup finals for my boyhood club were immensely proud moments for me and my family.”

“As a team, we have already won a major trophy this season and I look forward to helping us win many more under this great manager. I would like to say a special thank you to the fans for the great support they have always given me and the team.”

“They’ve watched my development and taken care of me. All I can say is thank you. It’s always going to be hard to break through at a big club but they’ve stuck by me and it’s a great feeling.”

HE ALSO APPRECIATED THE MANAGER AND HIS TRUST IN YOUNG PLAYERS:

“We know his resumé and the fact he’s won a lot of trophies.”

“It’s obviously great to work under him. He’s put trust in the young players this season.”

MOURINHO HAD POSITIVE WORDS FOR HIS ENGLISH MIDFIELDER:

“Jesse has been with the club since the age of seven. He has good intelligence which, when combined with his energy and ability, makes for a player with a great future ahead of him. Jesse is a popular member of the squad and I am delighted he has signed a new contract.”

The fans have had a mixed response to the news as they believe Lingard has not quite lived up to the standards of the club. He has been inconsistent whenever called upon and the fact that he has been preferred to the likes of Mkhitaryan and Martial recently has left the fans amused. However, stats suggest that Lingard has been pretty good in creating chances for his teammates.

Manchester United have been terrific with their development of youth in the country. Ever since the famous Class of ’92, the academy has produced some amazing footballers who’ve gone on to represent the club and their countries with pride.
