The Gunners are looking to rival Real Madrid, Manchester United and a host of other European giants for the 18-year-old’s signature after his incredible breakout season.
Wenger had been confident of luring Mbappe to north London, with the teenager supporting Arsenal as a child, but now concedes he is ‘pessimistic’ about their chances, according to L’Equipe.
The French publication claim that Wenger is now resigned to missing out on Mbappe, and has conceded as much in private.
Wenger had been spotted in Nice recently, with rumours suggesting he was there to thrash out a deal for the young France international, but he will now move onto other targets.

Arsenal were believed to be simultaneously working on a deal for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in the event that their pursuit of Mbappe failed.
Meanwhile, L’Equippe have also revealed that PSG have now joined the race for Mbappe, damaging Arsenal’s hopes even further.
Ironically, the big-spending French side had originally wanted Alexis Sanchez, but switched targets after losing faith in their ability to persuade the Chilean to move to Paris.
