As earlier widely reported by various media outlets that Liverpool have lost the battle to land highly-rated France youth international and Rennes forward, Ousmane Dembele to Borussia Dortmund, it all turns out to be a gaffe, as no deal has been agreed between the player’s agents and the Bundesliga side. His agent, Badou Sambagué rather revealed to Sports Witness,
“It’s only rumours. There has been no meeting and no discussions with clubs.”
As it stands, the player’s future is yet to be ascertained, and Liverpool still have a chance to land him. At least until the outcome of the meeting that will hold tomorrow (May 5) between his agent and Dortmund is known. L’Equipe reveals that the player himself, who is being monitored by up to 10 sides is reluctant as per moving to the Signal Iduna Park because of the stiff competition for playing time at the side. Liverpool on the other hand have been handing youths opportunities, with Klopp giving a couple of youngsters their debuts in the last 2 league games.
Dembele seems to prefer to remain at France with Rennes, as he is starting to lay claim on a starting shirt. However, with the Ligue one minnows set to receive between €15m and €20m if a sale is sanctioned, his future isn’t certain. Liverpool will definitely continue to keep tabs in hope that they finally get to convince both club and player to agree to an Anfield move. In his own words concerning the rumours regarding his future,
“I do not know what will happen this summer. I have signed a three-year contract last November and I’m fine in Rennes. The transfer market rumours bother me, but we do not pay much attention. As for now, I have no agreement with any team, I don’t know if I’m ready to play abroad.”
